Leopard Profiles:   Makubela

Makubela was born in December 2003 - one of a litter of three cubs, two of which made it to maturity.  Her father is probably the Othawa male and her mother is Shangwa.  She has set up territory in the western part of Shangwa's territory, an area just south of the Sand river and encompassing Leadwood, Exeter River and Idube lodges.  She was given her name in February 2006 - it refers to the drainage line near Idube where she is often found.

She is currently one of the most often seen leopards in the western sector, along with the senior resident female, Makwela.  It is likely that she will have her first cubs later in 2007.
